Posting blogs via Email

This is just a test to see if this new feature of blogger works. It enables you to post new blogs into your page via email and of course via MMS. If you are seeing this, that means this feature works nicely. But, already I'm using Microsoft Live Writer to post blogs, instead of blogger itself. Anyway there is no harm of trying a new thing!
Have a good day.

Have You Ever Been Labeled?

Well, I'm back after a quite long time. So to start off, I'm thinking about putting some thoughts about how people tend to label people just by looking at the mere past or present.

You might remember when you were at school your teacher scolding you, yelling at you saying you would never pass your exams or you would never get in to a good university. Also, you may remember how your parents were worrying about you not getting more than 75% for your math exam thinking you would never be like your brother or sister or even your friend who was much brighter than you. Well, I have news for you. Its too early to judge and label a person and his or her future just by looking at how he or she is performing at school/college or even at university level. Because you never know what will happen in the future and, what comes up on his or her way. Some people might call this destiny but I'll let you decide that.

I can draw many examples from the history such as Albert Einstein, Adolf Hitler, and even Bill Gates. Those examples are just one click away. Among them, you will find some are strongly inspirational. You might call them exceptional cases. But what would you call my friends who were notorious and nothing but playful, passed their exams, top ranked, got into best universities to study highly demanded subjects? And friends who had no distinctions for A/Ls but now earning millions? I'm not trying to say that people who get good remarks and pat on their backs will not perform in the future but, simply, hard work pays off. It does not necessarily have to be on education, but any other area which you are interested in. Arts, music, business, traveling, sports, construction, writing, it could be anything. Don't let people around you fool you & bring you down. And also, don't let somebody else define your future, you define your own future. Go for your dreams. Work hard, and one day you will succeed.

Gran Torino – MUST WATCH!

gran_torino

A disgruntled Korean war veteran tries to live his rest of the life peacefully within his own rules and boundaries. He has his own stereotypical believes which he later find out not quite true. His life however is about to change with a Korean family moving into his neighbourhood, quite specifically to his next door. Starring Clint Eastwood and Directed by Clint Eastwood himself, this is a remarkable peace of work which you must watch. I do not want to write anymore details especially about the Gran Torino (the car) because I insist you to watch the movie and see for yourself, what about it!. Just watch the movie without being a “Puss cake”. Those who have watched the movie know what I meant.

Hi-Tech Swimming

Micheal Phelps

This post is not about Michael Phelps. Its about what he is wearing. Yes, it is Speedo LZR Racer (Laser Racer) swim suit which is built on series of future technologies and innovation.  It is said that during 2008, 108 world records have been broken and 79 of them by swimmers wearing this stylish but deadly Speedo LZR Racer. It definitely got an astonishing aesthetic appeal. It is the first swimsuit to combine stitch-free, ultrasonically welded seams, water-resistant fabric and strategically-placed polyurethane panels (designed by Nasa). How cool is that?

Some of the features of it include the internal core stabiliser which supports and holds the swimmer in a corset-like grip and helps them to maintain the best body position in the water for longer, Ultra thin, ultra powerful, ultra low drag LZR panels, embedded at strategic points on the swimmer's body deliver optimum streamlined shape and drag reduction, LZR Pulse® which is the world's lightest, most powerful and water repellent swim fabric, helps to reduce muscle oscillation and skin vibration through superior compression, and the Hydro Form Compression System which creates the most hydrodynamic and compressed shape across the whole body. All these result in faster performance.

However, there are ethical concerns over the use of such Hi-tech swim suit. Athletes are expected to perform and be evaluated on the basis of their own capabilities. When external supports like this swim suit help them to reduce their unnecessary muscle movements (Yep,  that is what it does), which is beyond their capabilities, the question raises, whether it is ethical? or legal?. This swim suit cost around US $350. Wealthy players can afford it, but what about the rest? What will happen to the fairness of the game?

Anyway, 108 world records have already been broken. What we should appreciate here is the innovativeness and the use of modern technology by some SMART companies. It is true that world swimming governing body is to take measures about this controversial swim suit but, no matter how, future sports will no longer be the same.

My Video Editing

I wanted to try my luck with Video editing skills lately so, I created this video using Cyberlink PowerDirector v. 7, an amazing software. It has all the features I want so I believe I will be creating more and more videos. About this video: I created this video targeting my International Strategic Management Presentation on the topic of Corporate Social Responsibilities. I wanted to make it a little bit longer but I was too afraid about the time frame since I had two other videos ready to be included in the presentation. The shots were taken at Tesco Metro in the Victoria Centre, and at Aldi in Glasshouse street, Nottingham. The video shows some of the corporate social responsibility activities carried out by some companies and how they have taken them to enhance their product image and company image. What special in this video is that, this is the first time I have used my own video footages and graphics.

The Post with no Title!

Father son oceanWell, I couldn’t post anything for a long time for the simple reason that I have been busy. Its not that I’m not busy right now, but I wanted to come here and write something at least to relax my mind. The truth is, I’m getting more and more busier with academic works which I must give my fullest attention and priority to. However, since I’m not a geek style guy, this thing is  really hard. But I’m giving it a try because I’m not willing to give up so easily.

If you paid a visit to my Facebook profile recently, you would noticed that my status had been changed into “Subodha is going through a really tough season.. " Damn! this has to be the worst season & that's it. NO MORE!”. Well, this is the reason I came back here even though I’m really busy. To write something about the “tough season”. In my life, I have always been up for challenges. That is something which pumps me up. I face them, win them or loose. But above all, I learn from them. lessons that you cannot learn from reading those expensive “Well Referenced” books, from a lecture or from a seminar. After all, for these you have to pay. But the lessons that I’m taking about come free of charge, EITHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT.

Challenges that I’m facing are immense. On top of them, emotional ones. I cannot really blame anybody as this is the way j0438715I have been brought up. Relationships really matters. So if it wasn’t for you, you have got to do it for some other. Just like my best friend studying medicine for his parents. Sometimes I wonder, what am I doing? Is this what you really want? Are you doing this for yourself? If not, for who? Well, I’m still trying to figure it out. May be the answer is “blowing in the wind”.

What happen if you suddenly face what you would never expect to face? Well, if it is good, then lucky you. But things like that happen all the time and not most of them are good. It says you always have to expect the unexpected. That is so true. Therefore it is a challenge, expecting the unexpected. So I faced such a challenge. I came across with an unexpected event in my life. I simply don’t worry about it. I stopped fussing about  these unexpected things long time ago. But this event has a unique issue. Because it affects me emotionally. The issue has never been me though. It was the others who I care about and who care about me as well. You know what the worst thing is, I cannot explain them that I did my best to prevent it from happening.

You may have got confused by now, Since I have not said anything about the tough season except some rubbish about challenges. Well, there are two reasons for that. One is, I’m weak at putting my ideas into word effectively. Something that I’m not proud of. If you had been reading my blog, you would have already realised that by now. So If I did that, that would confused you more. After all, I come from a part of the world where communication is done implicitly. Secondly, I’m not willing to tell that. Yeah, even if I did, you would never understand. That’s complicated!NLLOGO

Seven Pounds

Believe me, this is a truly brilliant movie. I don't know if it was able to grab any of Oscar awards but,if you like Will Smith and his acting other than as a supper hero, this is your movie. In this movie, Tim Thomas (Will Smith) is searching for seven people who he think are deserved to be gifted by what he has to offer. I do not want to tell the story, instead, I insist you to spare two hours of you life to watch this movie. I guess the name "Seven Pounds" have been derived from The Merchant of Venice by Shakespeare because it basically means that you have seven debts to pay (and each needs a pound of flesh). It seems that this movie is not a big hit, but take my words, and watch it.

Do you think you are strong enough?

If you fell down, what would you do? Try getting up? What if you fail? You try again. And if you fail again and keep on failing and you felt you can never get up again, would you give up? I received this video attached to an email. Just watch it. Leave some comments if you like.

Magnanimity

Today, while I was reading, I came across with this word called "Magnanimity". The Collins dictionary defines magnanimous as "noble and generous" and so do many others. But the interesting bit is how the Greek philosopher Aristotle defined it.

Literatures show that in ancient Greece, people embraced the notion of both behaving well and treating others equally or rather being fare/justice (even though the term fair/justice may have been interpreted differently). This concerned with individual's behaviour and how the individual was perceived by others. Aristotle described 10 moral virtues that can be used to weigh an individual's behaviours. Each of these virtues i.e., moral excellences, has two extreme ends. According to Aristotle to be successful in any ethical situation I.e., behaving well and being fare, individual needs to be in a somewhat middle ground (I see some links to philosophy of Buddhism).

In terms of how individuals view themselves, the middle ground or what is ethical, acceptable and, balanced is "magnanimity". This means "Being able to feel and display personal pride when it is deserved, but without vanity". The two extreme ends are "meekness" and "vanity". The modern day word for magnanimity is pride. I don't actually see anything wrong with being proud of yourself, provided that you actually have something to be proud of. It may not necessarily be wealth or status which some people are so obsessed with. But it can be because of your achievements (Yes, achievements are subject to cultural variables), your personality traits or simply your beauty (Girls, of cause). I'm proud of myself because of my parents, my personal traits, how I have been brought up or simply because of whom I am.
Excessive pride, vanity, is a little bit irritating however. I find myself get along with any type of person but often find its irritating when they have vanity (its a bit different story
with girls though). I should not forget to mention boastfulness, the sincerity in expressing one's self. I often wonder how they even do that. Talk about themselves for hours just like we are so interested. What is more annoying is that these types of people do not care about others, or what others have to say. Most of the time they tend to be poor listeners (based on my observations). However it is these differences that make the world alive. Otherwise it would be like walking on an empty street.
I do apologise if you got confused with my starting off on ethics and then ending this in a different way. That is because frankly, Magnanimity in Aristotle's moral virtues is what made me write this, but since I'm so bored with ethics (thanks to my research project) and I do not really know much about it, I decided to write what I do know. This is not over though. I can write hundreds of pages on characteristics of people and their behaviours. A very interesting area which I like to observe and learn.

13 years old father

I think most of you already know this story. BBC reported this story as "13-years-old becomes father". Since everyone knows what this story is about, I'm not going to re-write the same thing here. But I'm just surprised to this news so thought of giving this 13 years some space in my blog.

Alfie Patten is serious about raising the child. Why not? Isn't it a good cause specially in a cruel world where parents leave their newly born child in garbage? Obviously. But then the question comes, is this 13 years old father or rather KID, able to raise this child without jeopardizing the child's future? Assuming that this Kid is actually the father of Maisie Roxanne (the child), Does he know what it needs to be a good father? Can you totally rely on his answer, when he couldn't even be careful enough to not to get his girl friend pregnant?

Watch it!

Lately, I have been thinking what could my favorite TV series be. I have no doubt that it is 24, but I love One Tree Hill as much as I love 24. However, these days I'm watching 24 season 07, One Tree Hill season 06 and also, The O.C. Yeah, I started watching it from the beginning and I quite like it. I guess I did not have time to watch this earlier and I have so many things to catch up, in terms of TV series. Specially I don't like Heroes, Lost and Smallville but who knows, after sometime I will start watching them too. But what next in my list is this 90210, The world's most famous ZIP code. Some of my flatmates are loving it.
I'm not a critic or a movie reviewer or someone like that, or not even someone having that capabilities. But according to what I feel, 24 and One Tree Hill are two distinct series when compared to all the others. 24 carries a lot of actions and curiosity in each and every minute and you don't feel like missing even a single second. Each series has different plot but few leading characters continue their life story throughout each season. So far there are 7 seasons, season 7 being the latest.

One Tree Hill on the other hand started as a story based around two college basketball players who also happened to be brothers fighting for their own identities. The story continues throughout 6 seasons so far. What I like about this story and how it differs from others is that it tells a story about challenges, difficulties, victories, and all sorts of events happening in our lives. The story also puts a great emphasis on reflecting relationships, feelings and thoughts of each characters which I find very refreshing. Another major focal point is background music and sound tracks. You must watch it otherwise I doubt if I can tell you how touching they are.

May be I'm wrong about other TV series, since I haven't watched them. But even though, 24 and One Tree Hill will remain as my all time favorites. I wish they will never end, especially the later.

One fine moment...

Being a true lover of diverse cultures, I had the pleasure of joining my Chinese friends in a Chinese style dinner. Actually, they invited me for a dinner at their place. I still can't remember If I had done any big favor for being invited like this. But I guess what matters is whether you are a true friend or not.

Sherry Invited me over to her place couple of weeks ago but she had to postpone it due to busy schedules of both of us. To be honest, I was not really looking forward to that as we all understand, sometimes things get complicated and people forget. But not Sherry. She invited me again when everything got back to normal (and before it gets busy again) and I, surprised but happy, warmly welcomed her invitation. The reason why I was happy is that this small incident proved me how Chinese people value their relationships and mutual understanding. What is more fascinating than experiencing a text book theory you learned few years ago?
Sherry came to walk me to their apartment which I found quite amazing. Worth the money they pay. Fancy glossy lift gives it a rich look.

Ben, Aimee, and Alise (Sorry if I have misspelled) were awaiting and some of them were giving the final touch to the dishes. They looked delicious. And of course they were. We started off with a soft drink and after a small talk we then slowly moved into indulge ourselves with the fabulous Chinese style dinner. After the dinner, I was lucky enough to have a traditional Chinese green Tea.
Dinner included dishes of Scrambled egg with tomato (Xi hong shi chao dan),Saute spicy chicken( da pan ji ),pearl flower vegetables(cao hua cai), spicy rib(xiang la pai gu),roast chicken wing(kao ji chi).

I must say how grateful I am. All the meals were very nicely cooked and I really enjoyed their wonderful hospitality.
For me, it was a reminder that still there are nice people in this world. Because I know that there were no strings attached to that dinner. Just a pure thought of friendship. Of course I could have visited a Chinese restaurant and order the same menu, but what important is not just the meals, but also what it represents, Friendship.
According to what Ben said, I think I managed to eat a lot and thereby show them that I'm a good friend :-)
Thanks for the treat fellows.

Spirit of Scotland..

I was so lucky to capture this video while I was roaming in Old Market Square taking some snaps of Nottingham Eye and some of night scenes (will be posted soon). You can hear the melodies of these drums from very distance but you must see the Scottish Dancer. I believe this is some sort of a traditional performing but, I don't know much details about it so I'm not going to write about it even though I would love to. May be one day I could write about these amazing cultures I see in Nottingham. But for the time being, enjoy the video.
